This year, there has been a growth in the number of participants completing the survey who have indicated they have an Electric vehicle (EV)/hybrid car – up from 7% last year to 10% in 2024 with a further 59% of participants who have indicated they are in the market for a new car/vehicle indicating they would consider purchasing an EV.

Participants in South-East Queensland have the highest incidence of EV ownership in the state (12%) and ownership is also higher among 18-34 year olds (18%) and those with a high household income ($151k or more) (17%).

Provider-managed charging of EVs is becoming more prominent (used by 17% of EV owners), with a HEMS control still the most popular (20%). A quarter of EV owners rely on advice from their electricity retailer to help them find the right charging arrangement for their individual circumstances (24%). Most EV owners who participated in this year’s survey are open to having their EV charging managed by a third party (64%).
