Queensland Household Energy Survey 2023

Electric vehicle (EV) ownership is consistent with last year, with 6% of respondents claiming to own a plug-in electric or hybrid car. On weekdays, roughly one-third (32%) of EVs are parked at home (down from 42% last year) and more than one-third (38%) are parked in a workplace car park (up from 29%). 

EV owners charge their EVs at home at a range of different times on both weekdays and weekends. The biggest influencer that determined EV owners’ charging arrangement at home was themselves, through their own research (46%). The biggest factor that determined their EV charging arrangement was the desire to maximise their solar PV usage (29%). The most common charging method is via 15A power point (34%). Over one third (37%) of EV owners charge their EV on a flat-rate tariff. 

Those with an EV use a range of methods to manage their EV charging, including Home Energy Management Systems, in-vehicle programming and choosing when they plug in. The majority of EV owners in the survey are also open to the concept of having their EV charging managed by a third party (65%).
