Going off-grid

Intention to go off-grid has increased slightly in the last year (25% intend to go off-grid at some point in the future, vs 22% in 2025). Younger people aged 18-34 continue to be the most interested in going off-grid in the future.

Those intending to go off-grid in the next three years say their main reasons are that it is a cost-effective option (45%), they want to be self-sufficient (40%) and they are concerned for future electricity price rises (43%).

Most of those intending to go off-grid in the next three years have taken action towards completely disconnecting from the grid (88% taken at least one action), including reducing electricity consumption (33%), conducting research about off-grid living (33%) and installing battery storage and solar PV systems (26% and 28%).
