Solar

This year, households who have indicated they are solar photovoltaic (PV) owners has increased slightly (47%, vs 46% in 2025), as has the intention to upgrade or purchase (34%, vs 26% in 2025). Those most likely to want to buy solar PV are younger people (aged 18 to 34) (40%), homeowners (35%), and those earning higher incomes ($151K or more) (40%). For those without solar PV, renting continues to be the main barrier to solar PV ownership (45%), followed by it not being financially viable (12%) and living in an apartment (10%).

Most households with solar PV see the importance of maximising electricity consumption during solar PV generation (79% high importance rated 7-10). In line with this, many households have taken actions to shift their electricity use to daytime, such as using appliances during the day (69%), and setting timers on pool pumps and hot water systems to run during the day (23% and 21%).
