Cost of living concerns remained consistent in the last twelve months. A majority of households are still concerned about their ability to pay electricity bills, with this proportion growing (59%, vs 55% in 2025). Households most likely to have this concern include renters (69%), those without rooftop solar panels (63%), and those with lower incomes ($31K to $71K) (61%). Fuel is the most concerning bill for households (66%), with food and groceries in second (64%) with electricity in third place.

Households continue to expect electricity price increases in the next 12 months (52%), despite a slight increase in the proportion who believe energy suppliers are working to make electricity more affordable.

Interest and engagement with electricity bills remained steady in 2026. At least half of participants are still more likely to check the overall cost (58%), feed-in tariff earnings (52%), and conduct year-on-year usage comparisons (50%) almost always. The proportion of households who know which electricity tariff they’re on has increased (40%, vs 34% in 2025).
