Going off-grid

Intention to go off-grid has remained steady in the last year, with younger people (aged 18 to 34) being most interested in going off-grid in the future.

Those intending to go off-grid in the next three years say their main reasons are because it is a cost-effective option and/or they are concerned about future electricity price rises. Those intending to go off-grid also mentioned the desire to look after the environment and to be self-sufficient as reasons to go off-grid.

Most of those intending to go off-grid in the next three years have taken action towards completely disconnecting from the grid, including reducing electricity consumption, conducting research about off-grid living and installing a large solar PV system.
